As soon as you realize your pet is missing contact Animal Control, the Animal Welfare League, and other area shelters. All animals picked up by Charlotte County Animal Control are brought to the Animal Welfare League. By law, stray animals become the property of Animal Welfare League after 5 days and they may be placed for adoption. Don’t wait to report your missing pet. If you see your pet on our website call the shelter at (941) 625-6720 any day from 11:00 am -5:00 pm. Be prepared to show proof of ownership.
Your chances of finding your pet are greatly increased if you can include a picture. Lost pets will be placed on the website within 24 hours of their arrival at AWL and will remain on the site for 25 days. Check back often. If you need help posting your pet on this site, bring a picture to the shelter any day after 11:00 am.
If you have found a pet, you may call Animal Control at (941) 833-5690. They will pick up the animal and bring it to the Animal Welfare League where it will be posted on this site.
If you prefer to keep the animal in your home until an owner is found, be aware that that your contact information will be shared with the potential owners of the pet you are housing. Please take the animal to an area shelter or veterinarian to be scanned for a microchip. Do not surrender a pet without proof of ownership.
Animal Control and area shelters are often the first place to be checked for a missing or found pet. We encourage you to report them here because not everyone is aware of private Lost & Found groups.
