04/04/13 - "Sewing with a Purpose"

Avid quilters, Tink Pease (left) and Theresa Morosse, both of Burnt Store Lakes in Punta Gorda, have recently begun "sewing with a purpose" for the Animal Welfare League shelter. They alter donated sheets, quilts and blankets to appropriate sizes for bedding. They really enjoy volunteering their talent for a great cause! Thanks, Tink and Theresa, for helping the animals!


03/26/13 - "Eagle Point Mobile Home Park Hosts 2nd Annual Dog Show"

Eagle Point Mobile Home Park of Punta Gorda recently held their 2nd Annual Dog Show. All proceeds from the event were donated to the Animal Welfare League. Lloyd, Rick, Jaye, and Ray presented a check to AWL Director, Sharon Thomas. Thank you, Eagle Point, for helping the homeless animals of Charlotte County.


03/23/13 - "Girl Scout Troop 707 Donates to the AWL"

Girl Scout Troop 707 of Port Charlotte recently stopped by the AWL shelter to make a donation of much needed items for our animals. Thank you, Troop 707, for making a difference in the lives of homeless animals!


03/05/13 - "Happy Birthday Jada!"

Jada Sawhney recently celebrated her 6th brithday. She asked all of her friends to bring gifts for the animals at the AWL. Thank you, Jada, for caring about the homeless animals!


02/22/13 - "Happy Birthday Juan Carlos!"

When Juan Carlos Maas celebrated his 13th birthday last week, he didn't ask for presents. Instead, he asked all of his friends to bring items to donate to the homeless animals. Thank you, Juan Carlos, for going above and beyond to help the animals!


12/06/12 - "Charlotte State Bank & Trust Loves Animals"

A sincere thank you to Charlotte State Bank & Trust of Harborview Road, Port Charlotte for their generous donation to the AWL. All branches are definitely the banks to count on for professional, friendly, hometown service. Again, thank you Charlotte State Bank & Trust for your dedicated, unwavering support!


12/01/12 - "Home Depot Makes the Holidays Happy"

A sincere thank you to the Home Depot of Punta Gorda and store manager Douglas Storm for their generous donation to our shelter. The gorgeous seven foot live Christmas tree and two beautiful Poinsettias help to make our Adoption Center cheerful and festive for this very special time of year. Happy Holidays to everyone at Home Depot!


11/30/12 - "PGMS Jr. Honor Society Cares About the Animals"

Thanks to the Punta Gorda Middle School Junior Honor Society for raising money to help the homeless animals of Charlotte County. President Liana Nunez, Vice-President Jessica Moore, Secretary Billy Ritter, and Treasurer Lavell Cudjo presented the check to Assistant Director Aggie Aguila and Randy Pleasant of the AWL. Thank you, PGMS Jr. Honor Society, for caring about the animals!


11/11/12 - "SW Florida Detroit Lions Fan Club Loves Animals"

A huge thank you to the wonderful Southwest Florida Detroit Lions Fan Club. Not only do you all have a passion for football, but also for homeless animals in need. Your generous donation of $290 is greatly appreciated. GO LIONS!


10/13/12 - "Girl Scout Troop 98 Juniors Donate to AWL"

Girl Scout Troop 98 Juniors of North Port stopped by the shelter to make a tremendous donation of much needed items. Their support will help save the lives of homeless animals. Thank you, Troop 98 Juniors, for your generosity!


09/18/12 - "Love of a Lifetime"

Thelma Teschko has loved animals for her entire life. So when Thelma celebrated her 91st birthday, she asked all of her guests to bring cat or dog food instead of presents. During a visit to the shelter, she donated all of the pet food to the Animal Welfare League. At home, Thelma enjoys and loves her black and white cat named Socks. Thank you, Thelma, for sharing your love of a lifetime!


04/25/12 - "Builders Club of Imagine School Helps Homeless Animals"

Special thanks to the Builders Club of Imagine School, North Port, for raising over $200 from various bake sales and activities. Club President, Dione Ramos, along with other club members presented a check to AWL Volunteer Coordinator, Pat Francis. Thank you, Builders Club, for caring about the homeless animals!


03/18/12 - "Young Artist Raises Money for the Animals"

Thank you to Megan McGivern for her generous donation to the Animal Welfare League. Megan drew pictures of animals and sold them to raise money for the Animal Welfare League. Thank you, Megan, for caring about the animals!


03/11/12 - "Coupon Kids Do It Again!"

A special thanks to the "Coupon Kids" for making another spectacular donation to the AWL from their savings through extreme couponing. The Declue Family has already made several donations to the AWL and our animals have benefitted greatly from their generosity. Kelly and Trevor even stopped by with some friends to make a donation. Thank you so much!


03/07/12 - "Eagle Point Mobile Home Park holds 3rd Annual Dog Show"

A gigantic "thank you" goes out to Eagle Point Mobile Home Park for hosting their 3rd Annual Dog Show. 100% of the proceeds were donated to the Animal Welfare League. Ray, Floyd, Pearl, and Nancy presented a check for $225 to Assistant Director, Aggie Aguila. Thank you, Eagle Point, for all you do for the homeless animals of Charlotte County! Everyone's a winner!


02/11/12 - "Gatorz Has a Heart for Pets"

A huge thank you to Gatorz Bar and Grill for their "Hearts for Pets" Black Jack Run held on Saturday, February 11th. This event involved a run from Gatorz of Port Charlotte to Gatorz of Marinatown and back! A check for $600 was presented to the AWL for all their efforts. The entire staff and of course all the furry residents of the shelter appreciate their generosity.


02/11/12 - "Paws in the Park at Riverside RV"

A tail waggin' thank you to the fine folks at the Riverside RV Resort & Campground located in Arcadia. Their "Paws in the Park" event raised $1,167.00 to benefit our homeless dogs and cats. Numerous activities and raffles made this a fun-filled afternoon. It was especially great to meet all the furry canines that call Riverside "home." A special thank you to Kajhilda and her hard working committee that made the event a huge success.


12/11 - "Parrotheads Party for the AWL"

Thank you to the Charlotte Harbor Parrotheads Club for hosting a party honoring the Animal Welfare League. Everyone who attended was asked to bring an item to donate to the AWL. This resulted in a HUGE donation from a group of people who know how to party for a good cause. Thank you, Parrotheads, for helping the homeless animals of Charlotte County!


11/20/11 - "Girls on the Run Donate to AWL"

Thanks to Kingsway Elementary Girls on the Run for donating many needed items to the Animal Welfare League. Sarah (pictured) and Lisa Roberts stopped by the Animal Welfare League Shelter to drop off items such as cat toys, dogs toys, and wet and dry food for the animals. Thanks so much!


11/19/11 - "Junior Honor Society Honors Homeless Animals"

Thank you to the Punta Gorda Middle School Junior Honor Society for raising $100 for the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County. Club President Kendall Chavarria, along with Advisors Danielle Deese and Rita Volk, presented the official check to Assistant Director Aggie Aguila earlier in the week. Thank you!


10/19/11 - "Lemonade and Cookies"

Thank you to Isabella and Ethan Cossu for raising $86.70 to help the animals at the AWL. Isabella came up with the idea to raise money by selling lemonade and cookies. Her father, Sergio, knew just the place to set up a stand - his office. Thanks, Cossu Family, for helping to make a difference!


09/29/11 - "Extreme Couponing Pays Off for the Animal Welfare League"

Thank you to the Declue Family (Kelly, Trevor, and their mother Trish) for donating the excess pet food and treats that they acquired through EXTREME COUPONING.


"Keely's Lemonade Stand Helps Homeless Animals"

Thank you to Keely Agnini for raising funds for the homeless animals of Charlotte County by running a lemonade stand in her neighborhood. Her pet-friendly neighbors helped her raise $50. Keely also held a successful bake sale last year. Thank you, Keely!
