Before you adopt a pet, be sure you are ready to take
on the RESPONSIBILITY of OWNING the type of pet that
you desire and that you know the county laws of
owning a pet in your neighborhood. We can answer most of your questions here at the shelter.
Pets are a life-long commitment and we strive to
place our shelter animals in responsible homes,
where they will be loved and receive proper care.
Here are some guidelines to help you understand our
policies and procedures, as well as what to expect
when you visit our shelter to find your family's
new best friend:
- Adopters must be at least 18 years of age and must
show valid identification with name and current residence.
- Adopters must own their own home or, if they are
renting, must have the written or telephone
permission of their landlord.
- If you currently own other animals, you need to bring proof of rabies and license in order to adopt a new pet.
- If you currently own a dog, you must bring your dog to the shelter to assure they are compatible with each other.
- We reserve the right to refuse an adoption.
- We have a 7-day return policy if an adoption does
not work out for any reason. We will offer either
another pet in exchange or a partial refund
of the adoption fee.
Adoption fees are as follows:
Dogs --- $75.00
Cats --- $70.00
Other Animals --- Varied
** Note: ** Canine Manners Program is offered free through
Peace River Dog Fancier's Club. The program is
offered to all dogs adopted from the shelter and
is held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month at
9:00 AM right here at the shelter. Please contact us
to register at (941) 625 6720, between the hours of
11:00 AM and 5:00 PM daily. All dogs must be leashed
