A New Leash on Life is a book written by Mary Ereth
to help people successfully bring a new dog or pup into their homes.
100% of the proceeds from book sales is being donated to the AWL.
The book is a concise basic manual for dog owners.
A copy of A New Leash on Life is given with each dog adoption at the shelter,
and many people have said the hints in the book have helped them with housebreaking, good doggy manners, bonding with their pup or dog, and obedience training. The book is certainly not a substitute for a good dog obedience class with a qualified instructor, but it may help some individuals who are experiencing problems with their dogs.
The author's basic premise for the book is that people often take new dogs or pups into their homes with the best of intentions, but because of a lack of insight into dog personalities and behaviors, difficulties can occur and escalate. Often, a well-meaning dog owner can actually cause or reinforce a negative behavior by their reaction (or lack of reaction) to their dog's needs or signals. The book is a quick-read into understanding the way a dog sees his world. All the photos models for the book are former shelter orphans who were adopted into happy homes.
The book is sold at the AWL Shelter on Drance Street in Port Charlotte, at AnimaLuvrs Pet Store south of Punta Gorda on Rt. 41, at Salty Paws Pet Store in Fishermen's Village in Punta Gorda, and at various veterinarian offices in our area. The cost is $8.95 with 100% of book sale money going directly to the shelter.
